“Acknowledging receipt”
Gratitude is a feeling born when a person receives something from another, a beneficial stimulus through gestures or actions which produces in the former a desire to express it in words or deeds. It precipitates gladness, union, even emotion. Gratitude can also be felt towards every positive aspect that life keeps giving away. “Thank you” is the term we use to admit the good that has been done to us. It is a very important term which shows politeness and which makes the recipient very happy, since when used honestly, it implies that the action has been valued and, therefore, so have the people who have done it. Hearing “thank you” mustn´t be our priority. The real aim is the next man´s happiness and, most likely, their gratitude is there even if they don´t express it right off the bat. Very frequently, our body generates a feeling of duty or debt towards our benefactors and we intend to reciprocicate. We need to bear in mind, though, that those who contribute to our happiness have done so willingly expecting nothing in return. In these occasions, there´s no such thing as a debt. Gratitude teaches us to feel wonderfully about those people and keep them in mind, knowing full well that opportunities to manifest gratitude will come swarming like flies. Nevertheless, uttering the expression “thank you”, if really heartfelt, says the world about us and it is no hard task, even when you use it in all honesty. It is healthy to be thankful in words and, above all, in deeds. At the same time, it pays to bring happiness without expecting gratitude. That will cause gratitude to be extremely contagious, making, in the process, everybody want to have it for themselves.
